Choose Right!

Choosing the right brush for your pet

Choose the right brush for your dog or cat. There are so many options in the market, but knowing the right brush for your pet's coat type makes all the difference. Here's what to look for on your next visit to the pet store.

Slicker brush and metal comb

A combination of the brush and a comb works well on long-coated dogs and cats. Run the brush through each layer of the coat (line brushing), then run the metal comb through to check for any knots.

Pin brush

Pin brushes are best for medium to long-haired dogs. They're mainly used to remove loose fur and give a nice finishing look on coats that aren't matted.

Rubber brush / curry comb

This brush works well on short-haired dogs and cats. Brush in a single direction over the body, avoiding one spot for too long — it also doubles as a scrubber during a bath.

Rake

An excellent tool for removing the undercoat on breeds like Huskies, German Shepherds and Chow Chows. It's effective at removing dead fur close to the skin without breaking through the top coat.

Flea comb

Flea combs are used to brush hair on your pet's face and clean dirt near the eyes and mouth. They're primarily used to remove fleas and can be used on any coat type.
